POSITION: Director of Membership
Primary Purpose of Position:
The Director of Membership is responsible for designing and implementing the NYSSCPA membership growth and retention strategy that aligns with NYSSCPA’s strategic objectives. The Director of Membership is responsible for leading the development, implementation and evaluation of membership growth strategies, as well as day-to-day management of the NYSSCPA member engagement. Serves as the liaison for designated Committees to build a strong membership culture within the Association; works closely with the Marketing & Communications Director and Chief Operating Officer to achieve the goal of NYSSCPA membership while delivering and ensuring the highest level of service to our members. This position reports to the COO.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Leads the association’s overall efforts to recruit, retain, and engage membership.

Collaborates with the Chief Operating Officer, department staff, chapters and key members to:
- Create a roadmap for sustainable membership growth;
- Establish short- and long-range plans and goals to achieve organization membership objectives;
- Outline a data-driven member engagement, retention, and recruitment strategy and implementation plan.

Develop strategies and programs to stimulate member engagement as a means of membership renewal.

Manage all aspects of membership, including preparing and managing the membership budget

Identify opportunities and collaborate with colleagues to enhance member benefits and services offered by the Association.

Develop strategies to measure and strengthen member engagement.

Work with both staff and members to develop and manage processes for feedback on NYSSCPA membership, programs, and services.
- Oversite of all membership data, tracking and reporting, including but not limited to:
- Accurate membership records

Membership trend analysis by region
-
Recruitment and retention reports
-
Current, new and prospective member information
-
Member experience throughout join and renewal process

Initiate and manage strategic partnerships with other auxiliary-related associations and groups to help recruitment and retention of membership; including, but not limited to, attendance at these types of conferences to represent the association.

Works with Chief Operating Officer to set annual membership goals. Provides monthly insight into membership revenue and tracking to annual goals.

Serves as staff liaison to designated committees; assist the committee chairs in the planning of meetings, development of the agenda, and in the execution of all committee activities.

Manages membership department and supervises membership team
Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Master’s degree and Certified Association Executive designation strongly encouraged.

Minimum of seven years of experience in membership or constituent management position preferred.

Demonstrated experience in growing membership/customers and strengthening membership/customer retention.

An understanding of the accounting or finance industry preferred.

Demonstrate problem solving skills with stakeholders, anticipate needs, determine priorities and meet deadlines.

Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.

At least 5 years experiences with database management.

Experience with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suite of tools.

Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to high level of customer service.

Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact effectively with members and customers outside the organization.

Considerable knowledge of organizational and time management skills.

Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively.

Ability to travel to represent NYSSCPA at chapters, professional conferences, leadership meetings, and in the normal course of membership development activities around New York state.

DEPARTMENT: FAE
POSITION: Director, Education
Primary Purpose of Position:
The Director of Education plays a crucial role in developing and executing our educational strategy, with a primary focus on promoting and selling our offerings. The incumbents expertise and leadership drives revenue growth and ensures our members have access to top-tier education and training to excel as Certified Public Accountants in New York state. The Director is responsible for overall program development, administration, and sale of all education programs of the NYSSCPA via the Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE). Develops, in collaboration with the FAE Board of Trustees, and oversees implementation of the society’s education strategy, and work closely with the FAE Trustees and committees on curriculum, assessments and program performance.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Education partners with the Marketing Team to develop and execute a sales and marketing strategy that generates revenue for FAE and works closely with the Membership Team to identify and deliver chapter and committee CPE programs that meets member needs.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of adult learning, the continuing professional education (CPE) market, the ability to research and develop solutions and services the NYSSCPA can offer, awareness of the organization’s competition and the ability to manage a team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) CPE Program Delivery and Oversight
a) Oversee the development and execution of educational programming and curriculum content consistent with the NYSSCPA/FAE’s mission and strategic goals.
b) Ensure the development of appropriate curriculum. Foster the educational experience via hands-on developmentally appropriate and highly interactive methods, which are also consistent with NYSED/NASBA academic standards.
c) Perform overall quality control review of courses including compliance with NYSED and NASBA standards
d) Develop policies and procedures for the safe and effective operation of FAE programming.
e) Provide contract negotiation review and oversight.
2) Sales Strategy and Execution:
a) Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to promote and sell FAE programs, including customized training solutions.
b) Repurpose content and educational products to on-line on demand delivery systems. Grow new business model with webinars and webcasts.
c) Identify and foster new learning partnerships, online educational offerings, content, product lines and subject matter experts.
d) Develop relationships with CPA firms and the decision makers within their organizations on behalf of FAE.
3) Research and Development:
a) Monitor changes affecting the profession such as new tax laws or accounting pronouncements and arrange for the presentation of “hot topics” programs in a timely manner.
b) Monitor competition for ideas and best practices.
c) Research and develop a thorough understanding of members and prospects to effectively suggest training solutions that contribute to the enhancement of the organization’s performance.
d) Ensure the FAE Trustees and Committees have the data and resources needed to guide the strategic decisions of the Foundation.
4) Management:
a) Lead and mentor an education team of 5-8 people, providing performance evaluation and feedback for all direct reports within the department.
b) Provide guidance, coaching and professional development opportunities to enhance the team’s performance and effectiveness.
c) Ensure processes are documented, optimized, and followed by all.
d) Implement and utilize a project management solution to manage department’s work and ensure oversight and visibility into progress, deliverables, and deadlines.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in instructional design methodoligies, adult learning, corporate training or curricula/courseware development.
- Certification such as Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Certified Association Executive (CAE), etc., preferred, but not required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant license a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years B2B sales and marketing experience of education programs.
- 7-10 years management experience with budgetary and financial knowledge.
- Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
- Strong decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail and strong organization skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Problem Solving/Decision Making:
Resolves problems that may arise with authors, vendors, hotel administrators, or course structure. Mediates between members and staff regarding course status, course discrepancies and cost. Makes decisions with respect to cost effectiveness of courses and site locations. Resolves issues regarding travel arrangements and reimbursement for speakers. Intervenes when deadlines are missed with respect to course development and promotion. Handles all high-level Operations situations and makes informed decisions that would be in the best interest of the NYSSCPA and FAE. Resolves minor problems regarding education technology systems and escalates to the IT department as needed. Participates in the decision-making regarding education systems and technology needs of the department.
Communications:
The Director of Education communicates with the FAE Trustees, Committees, Staff Executive Team, Department Directors, vendors, authors, members, clients and Society Staff as it relates to the design, development and implementation of education programs. The Director of Education also attends and presents at meetings with the FAE Board of Trustees, as it relates to the management and administration of the Foundation.
